The Communities of Lake Almanor

Chester
The charming community of Chester is the main business hub for the Lake Almanor Basin. Nestled along the banks of the Feather River, Chester's unique stores, parks, museums, and library provide the back drop for many annual events and celebrations.

Lake Almanor West
The West Shore of Lake Almanor, off of Highway 89, hosts the Almanor West Community with a 9-golf course, driving range, tennis courts, boat launch, beach and recreation area. Spectacular views of the Peninsula and LassenPeak highlight this community.


Prattville 
Located on the extreme west shore of Lake Almanor, historic Prattville is home to many family cabins, public beaches, marians, resorts, restaurants, camping and RV parks.

Canyon Dam
Gateway to Seneca, Greenville and Indian Valley, Canyon Dam lies along the southern most end of Lake Almanor with campsites, RV parks, lodging and public boat launch facilities.

Peninsula Village
Peninsula Village, along the shores of Lake Almanor on Peninsula Drive hosts marinas, a grocery store, coffee house, miniature golf course, RV resorts and several fine restaurants.

Lake Almanor Country Club
The Lake Almanor Country Club is a gated community at the tip of the peninsula with 2 boat launches, 2 recreation areas with beaches and playgrounds, a 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, bocci ball,  and a club house with restaurant and bar. 

Foxwood 
Located off of County Road A-13, several hundred acres make up the innovative gated community of Foxwood known for the beauty of its seasonal landscaping, Foxwood's open areas, playground and Pavilion are favorites for family and neighborhood events.

Bailey Creek 
Located off Clifford Drive, the homes of Bailey Creek are nestled among lush greens, beautiful pines and mountain views. Here lies the challenging and beautiful 18-Hole championship golf course, Bailey Creek with club house, restaurant and bar. A favorite spot for dining and events. 

Hamilton Branch
Located at the junction of A-13 and Highway 147, "the Branch" hosts lovely neighborhoods, set near the Feather River , Lake Almanor and the Power House, one of Lake Almanor's premier fishing spots. Amenities of the community include a private boat launch and beach/picnic area for residents.


Annual Events

The Lake Almanor Basin hosts many wonderful year round events and celebrations such as the Memorial Weekend, Arts & Craft Fairs, the Mile High 100 Bike Ride, Chester Fun Run, 4th of July parade and fireworks, Golf Tournaments, Street Rod Extravaganza, Merchant's Safe Trick or Treat, Thanksgiving Merchants Night, a holiday open house and street party, and much more. Art

The Lake Almanor Basin hosts a large and vibrant art community with representation in fine arts, textiles, pottery, print and photographic arts.  Art is showcased in local art galleries, in rotating public displays, in artist's showrooms and during the Almanor Art Show in August.  Plumas Arts is our county arts council and features art, music and entertainment events around the county.

Music

Music and entertainment are year round offerings. The summer months host live music and dancing at farmers markets, and the Lake Almanor Country Club Summer Sunday Band Shell series. Other year round music events include the concerts of the Chester Community Chorus


Library & Museum

The Chester-Lake Almanor Library and Museum are located at 210 First Avenue on the North Fork of the Feather River. The Library and Museum share the 1929 log cabin built for the Chester Branch of the Plumas County Library. 

One of the main attractions of the Museum is a photographic history of the original pioneer communities and settlers from the pre-Lake Almanor era of Big Meadows. View vintage photographs featuring native Americans, dairy and cattle ranching, early days logging, gold mining and early tourism.

Tuesday-Wednesday, Friday: 10am-12pm, 12:30pm-5:30pm
Thursday: 12pm-7pm, closed for break from 5-5:30pm
Saturday: 11am-3pm

Closed Sunday, Monday and major holidays.

Services Offered
Copies and prints are 20 cents each, black and white only. Free public computers and WiFi.

Parks & Recreation

Chester Park, located on Willow off Main Street, lies along the North Fork of the Feather River, boasts picnic tables, a playground, ball fields, a band shell, public restrooms, beautiful lawns and pines. The park is the location of many summer activities and events. The park sits at the trail head of the Collins Pine trail.


Collins Pine Park, owned by the Collins Pine Company, is located at the southwest entrance to Chester. Collins Pine Park is the location of the the Collins Museum and is the lovely setting for community events such as the Almanor Art Show in August.

Almanor Recreation and Parks District is the organization that hosts many of the recreational events and opportunities in the Lake Almanor Basin.  ARPD hosts little league baseball, youth soccer, the Mile High 100 bike ride in June, Chester Fun Run in July, Lake Almanor Poker Paddle in July, and the Street Rod Extravaganza in September.
